There are 14 cases scheduled for court hearings in February

A female defendant from the northern suburbs is due to face the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on charges relating to an emaciated dog found in squalid conditions and with no access to water, a second dog and a cat, both also being kept in squalid conditions and without access to water, and a guinea pig found confined inside a filthy small cage.

A couple from Adelaide’s northern suburbs are facing multiple charges in relation to the alleged ill-treatment of several reptiles and a rat found emaciated and/or deceased.

Two female defendants from a rural property north of Adelaide will face the Adelaide Magistrates Court on cruelty charges relating to a large number of dogs, cats, native animals and birds found in poor condition and being kept in squalid conditions. The majority of the animals recovered and have now been rehomed after the defendants surrendered them.

A couple from Adelaide’s southern suburbs is facing a charge of ill-treatment of an animal in relation to a dog found in emaciated condition. The dog has since been rehomed.

A couple in their 40s is due to face the Christies Beach Magistrates Court to face two counts of ill-treatment of an animal in relation to two dogs, found in emaciated condition. Both dogs were surrendered to RSPCA inspectors and have been rehomed. Their adult teenage son is a co-accused in relation to the care of one of the dogs. The couple is facing a third charge of failure to comply with a court order handed down in October 2021, forbidding them from acquiring or having custody of any animal until further order.

A 24-year-old male defendant from the northern suburbs is due to face the Elizabeth Magistrates Court charged with failing to provide appropriate and adequate food to a dog located in emaciated condition. The dog was seized by RSPCA inspectors in August 2021 and has since been rehomed.

A Whyalla man is facing a charge of animal ill-treatment in relation to a dog found underweight and tethered to a clothesline, with no shelter or water. The two-year-old dog remains in protective custody with RSPCA.

A male defendant is due to appear in the Berri Magistrates Court charged with recklessly causing unreasonable harm to a ram through a lack of appropriate care when shearing at a rural property in the state’s east.

 A 28-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man are due to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court charged with alleged failure to adequately feed a nine-year-old mastiff cross dog, found in emaciated condition. They are also charged with alleged failure to provide appropriate and adequate living conditions to 16 cats, found living in squalid and unsanitary conditions at a property in Kilburn. A number of the animals have been rehomed but four remain in protective custody with RSPCA SA.

 A 28-year-old woman is due to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court to face charges of alleged ill-treatment of three horses, found in emaciated condition on a property north of Adelaide. The horses remain in protective custody with RSPCA SA.

 The second defendant in a case in which a one-year-old dog was found deceased at a northern suburbs property is due to face the Elizabeth Magistrates Court following her arrest under warrant. The 30-year-old woman was jointly charged with failure to take reasonable steps to mitigate harm to the dog, whose body was in emaciated condition. An autopsy found a foreign object obstructing the dog’s digestive tract. The woman’s former partner pleaded guilty and was convicted and sentenced in February 2022 to a period of one month and six days, suspended on a three-year good behaviour bond.

 A 41-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of ill-treatment of animals in relation to four kittens and three adult cats. An RSPCA inspector seized the animals in mid-May after finding them ravenous, underweight and dehydrated inside a locked house in Port Pirie. It is alleged that the woman went on a one-month trip interstate and left the animals in her Port Pirie home without adequate food or water and with no provision made for their care in her absence. All the animals remain in RSPCA SA care except one of the kittens, which was euthanased on humane grounds shortly after being seized. The woman is due to face the Port Pirie Magistrates Court later this month.

 A 43-year old woman and her two adult daughters are facing eight counts of ill-treatment of animals in relation to two dogs and six cats found living in squalid conditions inside a house in the southern suburbs. One dog was found emaciated, tethered to a bed and suffering medical conditions requiring immediate veterinary attention. A cat in emaciated condition was found confined to a small cage, while other cats were found tethered to furniture. It is alleged that none of the animals had access to food or water. The case is due to be heard in the Christies Beach Magistrates court this month. Five of the cats have been rehomed, with the remaining two dogs and one cat in protective custody with RSPCA SA.

 A 27-year-old woman is due to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court to face two counts of ill-treatment of an animal in relation to two dogs found in emaciated condition at a north-eastern suburbs property.
