Three easy steps to adopting a rescue animal
Make a life-saving difference by adopting from RSPCA
Thousands of animals need RSPCA South Australia’s help every year. We’re only able to rehome these animals thanks to the support of loyal supporters like you – thanks for your interest in making a life-saving difference! To make it easier for you to find your perfect forever friend, all our animals available for adoption are listed here on our website.
How we help connect you with the perfect fur-ever friend
At RSPCA South Australia, we always look to match the right animal with the right owner. We offer personalised advice about which animal best suits a person’s lifestyle and personality. Prospective owners can book an appointment at one of our three animal care centres or at RSPCA PetVille to spend time and get to know an animal’s personality and behaviour before deciding to adopt. Bookings are managed online using an appointment system for each species currently available for adoption.
Please note, bookings are essential at all locations except when adopting a cat from our Lonsdale centre on a weekday or when adopting from our Stepney office or Petbarn locations.
If you have decided you are ready to welcome a rescue animal into your life, then it is time to book an adoption appointment. While our adoption pages are updated frequently every day, there is a chance that a specific animal you are interested in will have found a home prior to your appointment — so please keep this in mind or check online to see what animals are available before making the trip.
Once you have successfully booked your appointment you will receive a confirmation via SMS or email. You’re now ready to meet your special friend!
At the time of your appointment, a staff member will greet you at the facility and show you to the animals you are interested in adopting.
During your appointment you will be introduced to the animal you are interested in, and given time to interact with them to help you understand their personality and behaviour. This is the time to ask any questions that will help you decide if you and your animal would be a good match.
If you’ve chosen to adopt by the end of your appointment the team will now begin processing your adoption and preparing your animal for their new home!
The adoption process doesn’t end once an animal leaves one of our shelters. Our staff provide advice to new owners on general pet care including dietary requirements, and are also available for further advice in the days, weeks and months following adoption, as the animal settles into their new home.
