Animal care volunteers help look after the hundreds of animals staying in our shelters at any one time. Tasks may include feeding, cleaning enclosures, exercising and/or playing with animals, grooming and, of course, giving cuddles. No qualifications are required, and full training will be provided.

Foster carers welcome animals into their own homes when they're not yet ready to be adopted. Animals need foster care for all sorts of reasons – they may be too young to be desexed, recovering from illness or an operation, or just in need of a break from being in a shelter with so many other animals.

Op shops are an important source of income for RSPCA South Australia, and it's volunteers that keep them open. Tasks include providing great customer service, keeping the shop looking welcoming, and sorting donated goods for sale.

Administration and customer service volunteers are critical to ensuring our phones are answered, our donors are thanked, and our back office runs smoothly. Tasks vary by location, but could involve activities such as answering inquiries from prospective adopters or recording donations in our database. This role requires basic computer skills. All other training will be provided.

Vet support volunteers assist our vet team in providing the best possible treatment to animals in our care. Due to the nature of this role, we're unable to accept applications from individuals who do not either hold, or have commenced, a relevant recognised veterinary science or vet nursing qualification.
Please note, our vets are based at our Lonsdale Animal Care Centre and this is therefore the only location for this volunteering activity.

Volunteer photographers and videographers create beautiful visuals capturing the work of RSPCA South Australia. From taking pictures that help animals in our care find their forever home, to filming an interview with one of our Inspectors, the assignments are as diverse as they are rewarding. This role doesn't require formal qualifications, however experience is strongly preferred, and all applicants are required to submit a sample of their work.

With numerous locations across metropolitan Adelaide, and further afield in regional South Australia, we rely upon our volunteers to help us move goods and animals where they need to go. A clean licence is required, as there is often precious cargo on board.

Gardening and maintenance volunteers keep our Animal Care Centres safe and welcoming for animals and humans alike.Depending on your skills and experience, tasks may include gardening and general maintenance through to constructing new enclosures for animals in our care.

Volunteering within the Dog Training team, you will be assisting in our RSPCA Dog Training classes. You will learn how to read, understand and bond with dogs as well as the most up to date scientific methods in dog training. You will also develop valuable skills in human training as you assist our Instructors to teach the dogs' guardians. There may also be opportunities and assistance to work your way up to become an RSPCA dog trainer. To be considered for this, you will need to undertake studies in order to gain suitable qualifications or provide proof of a minimum 2 years experience as a force free trainer. Please note that, due to the time and resources involved in training our volunteers, we ask that you give a minimum six-month commitment to your role.
