Our op shop guide to this season’s top 4 thrifted fashion trends
October 24, 2018With the weather warming up, there’s no better time to hit our seven RSPCA op shops to seek out some ultra-savvy thrifted finds – but what are this season’s trending styles? Think clashing prints, linen dresses and overalls – all available for a fraction of the normal retail price.
With all proceeds going towards animals in need, what’s not to love about op shopping at an RSPCA South Australia store?
Trending style #1: Loveable linen
What’s not to love about linen? It’s breathable and lightweight – perfect for those warm summer nights at the beach watching the sun set. Feeling a bit chilly? Pair linen dresses with a striped turtleneck underneath for something different, or a cozy jumper over top.
Taylor found this dress after sorting through four jam-packed racks of dresses at our Kidman Park Op Shop. But hey, good things take time don’t they? This dress is so versatile and for the price of $10, how can you go wrong?
Our op shopping tip – don’t give up if you can’t find your size. You can always alter the garment to suit your shape or pair with a belt for a bit of shape.
Trending style #2: Printed head-wear
If you are wanting to add a pop of colour to your outfit, look no further than a printed scarf.
Found in our accessories section of each RSPCA op shop, we have a range of scarves and head-wear in a variety of prints, colours and fabric compositions, from silk to cotton. Our seven op shops are overflowing with all kinds of accessories, the choice is yours!
Taylor found this scarf at our Marden Op Shop for the bargain price of $4.
If you are going for a boho or tres chic look, knot the scarf around a messy bun or pony tail, or wrap around your hair for a more office approved look.
Our tip – knot a scarf loosely around your neck and pair with a plain t-shirt, jeans and boots.
Trending style #3: Comfy and cute overalls
Here is a bit of nostalgia for you! The wardrobe staple that never seems to go out of fashion – overalls.
Mia found these ‘The Fifth Label’ overalls at our Blackwood Op Shop for $12. Not only are overalls diverse, from wearing them to a festival to doing a bit of gardening in the sunshine, they are comfortable and hardy.
Denim, corduroy and cotton overalls are often donated to our seven op shops, in a variety of different shapes and sizes. Be quick though, as these babies are snapped up fast!
Trending style #4: Clashing prints
It’s time to bring out your inner Carrie Bradshaw, as clashing prints are in this season!
Now is no better time to visit your local RSPCA op shop and purchase some florals, polka dots, stripes or checks for your wardrobe. Pair them with a contrasting print for the ultimate clash. If you’re not so keen, grab a bright printed shirt and pair with some jeans. Our vintage and men’s section always stock some quirky finds.
Taylor found this 80s button up shirt in our Warradale Op Shop for $8. Perfect for a day at the beach!
Need some inspiration for clashing prints? Stripes and florals are always a winner.
So what are you waiting for? Get shopping! And remember, a $5 purchase at our RSPCA op shops is enough to give one animal in need three nights of warmth and care at our shelters. Now that’s a gift that makes a difference! Ready to shop? Head over here to see all our locations in South Australia.
