5 dog-friendly SA wineries you definitely need to visit this summer

December 20, 2019

Wineries combine some of life’s greatest joys: drinking wine, basking in the sun, and the opportunity to socialise with your mates.

So what could make it more exciting than bringing along your furry best friend to join in on all the fun?

Here are five of our favourite South Australian wineries that clearly understand the need to be with our fur baby 24/7.

1. Alpha Box & Dice

Located in McLaren Vale, Alpha Box & Dice is a rustic winery where you can treat yourself to 20 different wines and your pupper to handmade dog biscuits. While your four-legged loved one enjoys the smells of the great outdoors, you can indulge in one of their delicious antipasto platters.

The folks at Alpha Box & Dice love dogs so much that they even held a Dog Day on the June long weekend last year. What could be better than patting one dog a day? Patting many!

2. DogRidge Cellar Door

DogRidge Cellar Door is a small, family-owned winery located in McLaren Flat. With 90 acres of land, visitors at DogRidge are treated to breathtaking views and endless new smells for your dog to sniff. As the name suggests, DogRidge are keen dog lovers. With two pups of their own, they welcome all pooches with open arms. It gets a big paws up from us!

3. Mr Riggs Wine Co.

Nestled in the McLaren Flat region, this premium winery aims to make unpretentious wines using local produce to support local South Australian growers. At Mr Riggs Wine Co. you can sample a broad range of wines while taking in the picturesque views of the surrounding vineyards. Best of all, you can take your fur friend to play with the adorable residential winery pup, Winston.

4. Lazy Ballerina Winery

Opposite Kuitpo Forest in McLaren Vale is Lazy Ballerina Winery. While visiting you can take the opportunity to enjoy a wine tasting, or simply have wine by the glass, or bottle, in their garden with your furry friend.

It is the perfect place to relax and unwind. During your time there, you might even spot Mia, their residential winery dog who was adopted from RSPCA South Australia.

5. Penny’s Hill Winery

Penny’s Hill Cellar Door is located on the ‘Ingleburne’ landmark estate between Willunga and McLaren Vale. You can enjoy their premium estate wines over a relaxed long lunch while soaking up the farmyard charm.

It’s the perfect spot for a beautiful day out with friends and your fur-baby – you can even try your hand at bocce or relax by the fireplace.
