This border collie’s recovery is no Fluke – it’s thanks to your help

August 29, 2019

Just one month ago, poor Fluke arrived at RSPCA’s Lonsdale shelter terrified and in so much pain.

With deep lacerations on his neck and cuts around his eyes, the seven-year old border collie needed urgent medical treatment.

Kind-hearted members of the community stepped up to help Fluke recover – and he’s now been adopted into a loving new home, safe from harm.

Support for Fluke’s recovery blows us away

Fluke’s case is an emotional one.

In his previous home, he was left in shock after being suddenly attacked by a second family dog.

While his previous owner did her best to create a safe environment for her two dogs, sadly they just weren’t compatible – and surrendering Fluke to our care was the kindest option.

The sweet boy was ready for treatment, but we needed help to cover the costs of his surgery and rehabilitation – and we could not believe the response.

Fluke’s story touched the hearts of so many that we raised an incredible $2,869.

The border collie was in good hands – our dedicated veterinary team carefully cleaned his lesions and stitched up his wounds, inserting surgical drains to help prevent fluid build-up and protect Fluke from infection.

Thanks to your support, a brighter future was just around the corner.

RSPCA vets say Fluke’s happy ending is the ‘best part’ of their job

The RSPCA veterinary team found Fluke so lovely to deal with that it’s no wonder he won the heart of adopted owner Deborah soon after his recovery.

“Knowing that Fluke is happy and healthy with his new family is truly heartwarming,” says vet Lauren.

“The best part of my job is seeing an animal recover and be adopted into a new home.”

Endless gratitude from this resilient border collie

Fluke’s smile says it all – he couldn’t be more grateful to those who donated to give him the best chance at a new life.

As much as Fluke’s story touched the hearts of the community, the willingness of our generous supporters to help him touched ours. It’s only thanks to you that he had the opportunity to recover and find a safe new home.

Thank you.

From the bottom of our hearts, we’re so grateful to all our supporters who made Fluke’s new life a reality. If you’d like to continue helping animals just like Fluke, head over here to see our current emergency appeals.

    so sad to hear that

    1. Hi Anna, Fluke came from unfortunate circumstances and the way he ended up in our care certainly is sad. However, we’re so thrilled that his story had a happy ending – he recovered fully and has been adopted into a loving home!

My partner and I fostered Fluke and his sister for 6 months in 2017 through a group that fosters with the intention the dogs be reunited when their owners are able to care for them again. We we’re devastated when they went back home and have often thought of them since. So saddened to learn their dark days were not over and that he has experienced so much trauma. Grateful to hear he is now with a new family and will hopefully be showered with the love he deserves for many years to come.
