Every donation can save a life

When it comes to rescuing animals in need, every little bit helps.

From the moment the RSPCA South Australia Inspectorate team receives a cruelty report, the clock is ticking. The wheels are in motion, and the battle to save an innocent life has begun. Unfortunately, the resources of inspectors are limited, and their ability to save lives fully depends on the generosity of the public.

Without regular donations from everyday South Australians, the RSPCA Inspectorate team would not have been able to investigate the 4,398 cruelty reports it received during the last financial year. Because of these reports from eagle-eyed animal lovers, the organisation was able to rescue 955 animals from sad, squalid, and sometimes dangerous living conditions. For many of these animals, this was just the beginning of their journey towards a happy life with a loving family in a safe, comfortable home.

Paige and Sally’s sad story

This is exactly what happened to two dogs in the backyard of an Adelaide home last year after their owners neglected and starved them for three weeks. Paige, a five-year-old Rottweiler cross, and Sally, a two-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross, were so hungry by the time the inspectors found them that they had actually begun to fight over what little food they could find. Their situation had become so dire that Paige had bitten Sally on the neck during the fight. This desperate action was done by an animal in unimaginable pain, simply trying to survive until help arrived.

Once both dogs had been seized for treatment and care, staff at RSPCA’s Lonsdale shelter put them on a careful feeding plan to help them steadily gain weight. During their time in the care of RSPCA South Australia, Paige and Sally gained 1.8 and 1.5 times their body weight, respectively. Both animals made a full recovery under the care of RSPCA staff and volunteers and were later adopted by loving families. Paige and Sally are now both enjoying life in their new homes, happy in the knowledge that they never have to endure the pain and sadness of cruelty and neglect again.

Thanks to donations from generous animal lovers all over South Australia, we were able to rescue Paige and Sally and give them a chance at finding their happy ever after. Unfortunately, thousands of animals just like them are still suffering; left to starve in someone’s backyard, abused and taught to fear humans, or forced to breed until they collapse under the pressure on their bodies.

These animals are living in desperate hope that one day someone will come to their rescue. They are relying on us, and we, in turn, are relying on generous people like you.

South Australians to the rescue

The RSPCA South Australia Inspectorate team relies largely on donations from the community to stay on the road, and with millions of square kilometres to cover every year, its resources are stretched thin. However, thanks to generous animal lovers such as yourself, many of the horrifying cases of animal cruelty it investigates end in happiness. You can read the details of one such case below of two dogs that were left to starve for three weeks by their negligent owners before being saved by one of RPSCA South Australia’s inspectors.

When you sign up to be a Team Rescue sponsor, your donation does not just contribute to keeping inspectors on the road. Once an animal has been rescued, RSPCA South Australia’s dedicated team of veterinarians give them top-notch medical care. After an animal has recovered from its medical treatment, RSPCA shelter staff work tirelessly until they have found a loving home for each animal. This includes feeding and housing the animals until a member of the public opens their heart and their home to them.
