A loving and caring place for animals in need.
Our three shelters across South Australia – at Lonsdale (just south of Adelaide), Port Lincoln and Whyalla – care for thousands of injured, neglected, sick, surrendered and unwanted animals each year. Our shelters are a haven for animals that have been abandoned, lost, surrendered or have been victims of cruelty or neglect.
All RSPCA South Australia shelters support and facilitate animal adoptions. You can see all our animals currently available for adoption here.
Please note that we do not offer veterinary and behavioural services to the general public.
If you wish to donate items to our shelters, you can find a full list of items we can and can’t accept here. Donations can be made at any of our shelter locations, op shops and head office.

RSPCA Lonsdale Shelter
Our Lonsdale shelter at 25 Meyer Road is now PERMANENTLY CLOSED to the public. There will be no adoptions or surrenders until we open the doors of our new, state-of-the-art HQ at 10am on Monday, 6 May 2024.
Our new campus is located at 9a Majors Road, O’Halloran Hill (north-west corner of South and Majors Rds).

O’Halloran Hill animal care campus opens 10am Monday 6 May 2024.
Located just south of Adelaide, our Lonsdale Shelter was the largest animal shelter in South Australia. From here, we offered a full range of adoption services. We also ran an extensive foster care program from this site. There was also a pet retail shop on-site that stocks food, treats, toys, etc.

RSPCA Port Lincoln Animal Care Centre
Located on the Eyre Peninsula, our Port Lincoln Animal Care Centre is a regional hub servicing surrounding areas. We offer adoption services, cat boarding, and a pet retail shop on-site. We also run student placements, volunteer opportunities and a foster care program here.

Located on the Eyre Peninsula’s east coast, our Whyalla Shelter is a regional hub servicing surrounding areas. We offer adoption services, dog and cat boarding, and a pet retail shop on-site. We also run volunteer opportunities and a foster care program here.
