Foster carers: the everyday heroes changing lives of animals

September 19, 2023

In the last year, nearly 1,000 big-hearted foster carers opened their homes and hearts to vulnerable animals – but they couldn’t do it without you.

Your kindness provides our volunteer foster carers with everything they need to shower animals with love and get them ready for their forever homes. Together with foster carers like Shan & Deb, you are changing lives.

Shan has been a volunteer foster carer since early 2020, caring for an incredible 177 animals.

She recently took on the challenge of caring for six young puppies with ringworm – a contagious fungal skin infection. This required giving them medicated baths twice a week and oral medication daily, as well as regularly deep cleaning their area.

The pups loved bath time because it meant cuddles with Shan (in full protective gear of course)!

All these pups are now living healthy and happy lives with their new adopted families, thanks to Shan’s dedication, and the kind support of people like you who make it possible.

Superstar foster carer Deb has looked after kittens, puppies, cats, dogs, even horses and sheep! But one she’ll never forget is Scooby the Mastiff X.

He came in through our Inspectorate, nearly starved to death and severely neglected. Deb carefully fed Scooby up on a special diet until he doubled in weight, gave him medications and special baths for a severe skin condition, and embraced him with the love and care he always deserved.

After 11 loving months in foster with Deb, Scooby’s case finalised (his former owner was successfully convicted), and he was adopted into a loving forever home.

Sadly, Scooby passed away late last year from cancer. But thanks to Deb, his adopter, and kind supporters like you, Scooby experienced unconditional love and care in those last few years, perhaps for the first time in his life. And that’s priceless.

Animals truly thrive in a loving home environment. Are you an animal lover with a lot of love to give? Make a difference by giving a temporary home to an animal in need as a foster carer.
